The College of Charleston Alumni Association has named its Alumni Scholarships in Athletics for Otto B. German '73, in recognition of his 46 years of service to his alma mater. He was among the first black students to enter the College and played on the men's basketball team. After graduating with a degree in education, he went to work at the College in financial aid, student activities and admissions before moving to Athletics where he served for 27 years. He retired in 2019 as Associate Athletics Director for NCAA Compliance and continues to serve as Past President of the Black Alumni Council.
