The Dr. William R. Barfield Endowed Scholarship has been established for exercise science students and will ensure perpetual impact to our deserving students and will create a permanent legacy for Dr. Barfield and his commitment to the College of Charleston, our students, and our alumni. The Health and Human Performance Department (HEHP) has seen incredible growth during Dr. Barfield’s years of teaching and service. The number of students majoring in HEHP programs has grown exponentially in recent years from 304 students (2010) to 841 (2016). Specifically, exercise science has grown from 159 students in Fall 2012 to 408 students in Fall 2016. The need for scholarships to support our students in these growing programs also has grown exponentially.
