About The McConnell Endowed Scholarship
With a few short weeks left before Glenn F. McConnell '69 retires as the College of Charleston's 22nd president, we want to say "thank you" to President McConnell for making an impact through giving back to the College. The McConnell Endowed Scholarship he established during his presidency helps students from South Carolina who demonstrate financial need.

"I can further my studies at the College without the strain of too much debt because of you. Thank you for your generosity," said Kayshawn McCoy, a current McConnell Scholar.
McConnell earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the College in 1969. As an undergraduate, he served as student body president, was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and received the Founders Medal, the highest award bestowed by the College. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1972 and was admitted to the SC Bar that same year. His tenure as President followed a 30+-year career in the South Carolina Senate as well as time leading the Lieutenant Governor's Office and the Office on Aging.
Since creating the scholarship at his alma mater, President McConnell has shared how much it means to him to know he is making a difference in students' lives. "You find and understand the powerful emotional aspect to philanthropy. You listen to that inner calling and are inspired to give to the College. Knowing that you impact the lives of current and future students is one of the best feelings in the world," President McConnell said regarding giving back to the College.
